More than 10 million viewers tuned in to the US debut of Star Trek: Discovery on Sunday night, but for international Trekkies watching via Netflix, you’ll be delighted to discover an entirely different viewing experience is available.

Alongside its debut yesterday on the streaming service, Netflix has slipped a cute bonus into its viewing options, with subtitles available that read entirely in the Klingon language of tlhIngan Hol.

Netflix has also released a special trailer for the new series dubbed in Klingon, to give viewers an idea of what it’d be like if Star Trek: Discovery were made on the Klingon homeland of Qo’noS.

While there are speculated to be only 20 to 30 individuals in the world able to speak in fluent Klingon, the Netflix easter egg – which was first discovered by io9 – could allow for regular folk with just a tad too much time on their hands to brush up on their own Klingonese.

Unlike traditional Netflix originals, Star Trek: Discovery is landing on the streaming service one episode per week until early November. It will then return in January 2018 for the remainder of its 15-episode run.

And all 15 episodes with Klingon subtitles were translated by Klingon teacher Lieven L Litaer.
